    Note that most of these numbers are strict number-of-cases with no total population to compare them to. 5000 sworn officers are involved in misconduct – SHOCKING! Oh, wait, how many total officers is this out of?

    I’m not saying that police violence and corruption aren’t problems; I AM saying that this infographic is worthless.

    There are around 800,000 law-enforcement offcials in the US.

    0.625% of officers are /involved/ in misconduct cases; that figure doesn’t just include perpetrators but witnessess.

    0.048% of cops are sex offenders according to those stats, as opposed to… 0.24% of Americans. So police are five times /less likely/ to be sex offenders thank the average person. The total is even lower if you realize that a misconduct case does /not/ equal a conviction.

    Overzealous prosecution is a serious problem in this country. However, painting police officers as the bad guy is not right.
